We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Data Engineer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, working remotely within the UK. The ideal candidate will have 7 15 years of professional experience in designing and implementing modern, cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Azure , with additional exposure to AWS . This role involves building scalable data pipelines, enabling advanced analytics, and ensuring end-to-end data quality, governance, and performance across distributed cloud environments.
You will work closely with data architects, analysts, cloud engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing data platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical depth in Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Data Lake, Python, Spark , and SQL , with a strong understanding of cloud-native data engineering best practices. This position requires someone who can operate independently, communicate effectively, and thrive in a remote-first culture.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and related Azure data services.
Build and optimize big data processing frameworks using Spark/PySpark in Databricks.
Architect and implement data lake and data warehouse solutions leveraging Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, and Synapse Analytics.
Develop and enhance data models , including dimensional and relational modelling techniques.
Implement data integration from multiple structured and unstructured data sources.
Ensure high-level data quality, validation, lineage, and governance across all pipelines.
Configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines , version control (Git), and cloud DevOps workflows.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust data engineering solutions.
Monitor and optimize performance, reliability, cost, and security of cloud data platforms.
Contribute to cloud modernization and migration initiatives, including legacy-to-cloud transformations.
Work with AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift) as needed for hybrid/multi-cloud data solutions.
Support incident resolution, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of data systems.
7 15 years of experience in data engineering , with strong hands-on expertise in Azure cloud services.
Deep proficiency in:
Azure Data Factory (ADF)
Azure Databricks (Spark, PySpark)
Azure Synapse Analytics
Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
Azure SQL / SQL Server
Strong programming skills in Python , SQL , and Spark-based data processing.
Proven experience with ETL/ELT pipeline development , data integration, and large-scale data processing.
Solid understanding of data warehousing , data modelling , and Delta Lake concepts.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools , Git, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent).
Familiarity with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, EMR) is a plus.
Experience with data quality frameworks , metadata management, and data governance practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
